Singapore "choking on haze from Indonesia"

While I am working on my post from my trip to Cambodia, I thought I would give you a quick update about Singapore.  Indonesia is known for having forest fires. Some of these forest fires are lit intentionally to clear the land in order to plant for oil palm plantations, which not only pollutes the air - but also endangers animals, such as orangutans - read about it here.

Yesterday, when we got off the plane from Singapore around 10pm, we noticed an acrid smell of burnt wood. Today when we woke up the entire sky was filled with a haze - you can barely see the horizon - and the smell - the smell is incredibly strong, burning wood. Apparently, the haze is so bad, that is well surpasses the dangerous limits. This is going to be tough on me - as I have asthma (as well as our friend visiting, Kevin). I really hope that it blows over soon. Read more about it here.

Here's a picture from the interwebs of the fire.

Here are some pictures I took. I am not sure they do it justice...

View from the hotel room. Usually you can see the ocean...

This is a view from school...

And another...

Last one. This is looking out the front of school.

Needless to say, I am trying not to go outside much :(
