Gift basket from Fraser Suites when we arrived. Bet you can't guess what I ate first (hint: starts with p and ends with gles)
Becky, this one is for you. Bread pudding. It was delicious. No idea what that weird fruit is on it btw...
My favorite beer that is inexplicably hard to get in the US...Kilkenny
Just a little proof about how much booze costs in Singapore...4 Kilkenny = $72.00!!!
My favorite drink in Singapore and it's virgin! Fresh squeezed lime juice. These are not the same limes as in the US. They are much smaller and sweeter. I miss this stuff so much when I come back home. Here is a picture of them, although I don't think it quite gives you the scale.
Vegetarian pineapple fried rice and a good ole Tiger beer from the Zion Hawker stand (this one is the closest to my hotel). Hawker stands are basically outdoorish food courts that are all over Singapore. They are really cheap. I believe the food cost $4.00 and the beer was $6.00.
These are some noodles I got from Cold Storage, the local grocery store. I learned my lesson from last year. No buying of American food items (a Lean Cuisine costs about $10-11 US dollars here). These noodles were really good. I may buy some to bring home with me.
This is my second favorite meal in Singapore. For those that read my blog last year, you know my favorite meal is the Veggie Murtobak from Spize. This is from Bar Bar Black Sheep, my second favorite restaurant here. This is from their Indian stall and is called Moong Dahl Curry, which I have a hard time finding in the states. Oh and of course, garlic naan. And yes, that is another Tiger beer you see there. Funnily because this is a "real" bar and not a hawker stand, this Tiger beer cost $9.00 and was significantly smaller.
I couldn't help taking a picture of this mini blue bell cheese...They have these at my breakfast buffet. They are delicious, and I like to put them in my eggs. Literally, these are the littlest cheeses ever. For some reason, I find them adorable.
The fruit juice place - fresh fruit juice is extraordinarily popular here (every place has juicers)- puts a seal on the cup right after they juice it...I thought it was funny. It doesn't hurt that it is called "happy cup!"
This is one of my favorite Asian meals - it is Korean. This one is a hot bibimbap. I also enjoy the cold one. I actually love kimchi too. Whatever that soup is, is also amazing (and I hope to goodness it is vegetarian). Please, no one tell me otherwise. They told me it was, and I chose to believe it.
Okay, so this was a really funny one. The restaurant is called 2amdessertbar. They are very literal with their names here (Good Good Eating House, Face Store)- this happens to be a dessert bar that closes at 2am. Let me qualify by saying that this desert was delicious (and expensive = $18.00) before I tell you what it is. Okay, so it was wheat toast ice cream (which tasted exactly like wheat toast), chili chocolate, peanut butter, and honeycomb. I swear, it was fantastic! Sage, you would have loved it!
So this was from the Fullerton Bay Hotel Lantern Bar/Restaurant. Some stuff happened at this bar, but the manager was very good. These were truffle parmesan fries in the cutest ceramic "fry bag." They were really tasty!
So, sometimes I get a sweet tooth...I know very shocking. Anyhow, there is a cute little sweet shop in Great World City (the mall by my apartment). I decided to try the Angry Bird mini cake. It was pretty good. This one actually lived up to the 70% Singapore rule. MA, that one is for you :).
Becky, you get two shout-outs in one post! This was the Lebanese restaurant. I actually don't remember what this was called, but it was fantastic!
Okay, so I have to admit, I didn't actually eat this. This is Durian Fruit. I told people I was thinking of trying it, and more than one of them said don't do it! So, I didn't. It smells very, very bad! Last year a faculty member opened one in the office, and I had to leave. It gave me a headache. There is an ice-cream shop in my building that sells durian ice cream, and I can barely stand the smell of the shop.
I have now tried a ton of pizza in Singapore. I may have a pizza addiction :). This was the best. It was from Peperoni Restaurant (the link is to confirm my spelling). Do note that I have tried Dominos and Pizza Hut, as well as the well-known Canadian Pizza (they're known for pizza, right?!?!?!).
I found macroons, which have become a little bit of an obsession of mine. Where Mom lives in Ft. Lauderdale - there is a fantastic macaroon shop.
I ordered a side of fries and this place literally brought me a giant pint glass of fries...see below for a size comparison shot.
I ate a lot of them. You know I am Irish (and German) and love my potatoes!
So this is actually from Thailand. It is pad thai and tom yum soup. Astute observes will note that there is no way I ate the tom yum soup, as there were tentacly (yes that is a technical term) things in it- belch!! But the pad thai was amazing! Actually, all the food was amazing in Thailand. My breakfast (included in my hotel of $32.00 a night - included farm fresh eggs. They were amazing). The curries were amazing, both the green and the panang curry!

Mmmmmm bread pudding. Great, now I'm hungry! By the way - that fruit is called a cape gooseberry and I was eating more than my fair share of them in Germany!
